I have a patient, Marsha, who is a bit concerned about how her treatment is going, she feels like it is spreading. She has sent pictures. I was wanting to know what your advice would be for her regarding how it is going so far with the treatment via the photos.
Thanks.
Answer:
Cancer is
like an iceberg, that is, what is seen on the outside is just the tip of the iceberg. So with cancer there may be a wider spread under the skin. In my opinion what she is
seeing is that the cancer cells are actually breaking down and hence
the ulcerations. I think that underneath the skin these lesions
are most likely interconnected. So what she is seeing as new lesions
may not actually be new ones but part of the spread under the skin.
