EFFECTIVENESS OF BEC5 ON SKIN CANCER

At the beginning of the research stage it was immediately established that the glycoalkaloids, now known as BEC, killed cancer cells in test tubes.

In animal studies, BEC, demonstrated to be effective against internal cancers. After treatment with BEC, more than 95% of mice with deadly internal cancer became cancer free and remained so for the remainder of their lives. In human cell culture experiments, BEC showed that it could selectively kill cancer cells but not normal cells.

Whilst the capacity of BEC on human cancer cells was exciting, the active had to be tested directly on real human skin cancers. Initial human clinical studies concentrated on premalignant keratoses, which are rarely life threatening. These are otherwise known as 'Sun Spots.' The results of these human cases proved outstanding, with all keratoses cancer cells destroyed Studies then proceeded to rarely life threatening BCCs. The reason that keratoses and BCC (Basal cell carcinoma) was that Virtually no metastasis occur with these lesions. There were little risks that treatment of these lesions would result in causing these cancers to move from their original site to elsewhere in the body where they could cause serious harm.

The clinical studies on BCC showed that Curaderm was extremely effective and destroyed cancer cells and not normal cells. A series of clinical trials with both visual and biopsy conclusions demonstrated a very high success rate. The cancers were destroyed and the skin returned to its usual appearance with little scarring or side effects.

RESEARCH RESULTS

The capacity for BEC to selectively destroy only cancerous cells, leaving other cells untouched, has been confirmed by other researchers. One such independent confirmation study was published in 1990 by Nakamura et al in the medical journal, Biological Pharmacy.
